Artist: Willie Wilson
Medium: Wool Cushion Cover – 16in (40cm)
Willie’s painting depicts his country in the remote north-west of South Australia, within the Anangu Pitjantjatjara/Yankunytjatjara Lands. The work illustrates an aspect of Tjurkurrpa (Creation Story), an important part of Anangu culture and law.
In the centre of the painting lies a rockhole, a significant site within the landscape. On either side of it sit two wati (men), whose presence represents a moment from the ancestral narrative. Their positioning speaks to their role in the story and their connection to this sacred place.
