Artist: Nami Kulyuru
Medium: Wool Cushion Cover – 16in (40cm)
This story tells of two women travelling across the land, carrying digging sticks and searching for mai (bush food).
They journey on foot through sandhills and mountains, starting in Western Australia and heading toward Wamitja (Birthday Creek), near Ernabella. When they arrive at Wamitja, they camp for the night.
In the morning, they see a man sleeping alone on a mountain. The women strike him, roll his body into a cave, and hide him. They then continue their journey toward Ayers Rock (Uluru).
Nami says this is her mother’s story — a very big and important story. She shares only the parts she knows.
