This is the story of Kaliny-Kalinypa (Honey Grevillea), a plant Anangu people use as a natural bush lolly.
At Pukara, a sacred waterhole near Irrunytju (Wingellina), a father and son — Wati Kutjara Wanampi (two male water snakes) — live together. The water at Pukara is sweet because of the kaliny-kalinypa growing nearby, attracting many people to drink from it. But the father doesn’t like the crowd and tells them to return to their own country.
After the people leave, the father and son travel to Wiluna, where they camp for several weeks. Upon returning to Pukara, they are awakened by the buzzing of Minyma Punpunpa (female flies) around the blooming honey bushes. Prompted by the sound, they rise to collect honey.
While doing so, a Wati Mututa (black ant man) finds them and spears the son in the side. The boy begins to spit, and from his mouth come the yellow and orange seeds of many kinds of honey grevillea.
