The Journey of the Dog Ancestors – Warnirri Jukurrpa (Dog Dreaming)

Two ancestral dogs—a Jampijinpa man and a Napangardi woman—travelled together from the west toward the east. As they journeyed across the land, they dug into the earth, forming warnirri (rockholes) and ngapa (waterholes), leaving behind sacred sites that remain significant to this day.

At one point, the two dogs went their separate ways. However, Jampijinpa grew lonely and began howling for Napangardi from the north. Hearing his calls, she came running from the south. The two were reunited at Ngarnka, where they married.

This story is part of the Jukurrpa (Dreaming) and reflects themes of connection, longing, and the creation of important water sources across the landscape. It continues to be passed down through generations in Warlpiri culture.
