Artist: Cedric Varcoe
Medium: Wool Cushion Cover – 16in (40cm)
This artwork tells the story of Ngurunderi, who came down the Murray River in his canoe, chasing the giant Murray Cod. In doing so, he shaped the Murray River, its lakes, and the entire Ngarrindjeri Country. Ngurunderi also created the Ngarrindjeri people and taught them the lore, dance, song, and daily skills to live and thrive on their land.
The piece was created during a developmental workshop with Better World Arts, supported by Arts SA. In this work, Cedric Varcoe explored bold colour and fluid line work, developing a striking style full of energy, movement, and cultural significance.
